Euronext soft wheat (EBM) trades in euros per tonne on the Paris futures market, formerly known as Matif. The displayed price is the most active contract by open interest. Available expiries are March, May, September, November and December. The EBM price is the benchmark for French soft wheat commercialisation. Farmers, cooperatives and traders use it to set selling prices or hedge positions. A large gap between the Euronext wheat price and the farmgate price reflects local basis and logistics costs. Wheat prices react mainly to global supply and demand balances published by the USDA (monthly WASDE report), speculative fund positioning (Euronext COT report, published every Wednesday evening), and weather in key production zones: France, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Australia.
